• New Rumored WrestleMania 42 Match For Drew McIntyre

Drew McIntyre is rumored to be moving away from the WWE Title picture just in time for WrestleMania 42. This Friday on SmackDown, McIntyre is set to defend his Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes. The winner is scheduled to defend the title against Randy Orton at WrestleMania 42, and new reports suggest a major shake-up.

Cody is rumored to win the title this week to set up a massive teacher-vs-student match against Orton, which means WWE would need a new plan for The Scottish Warrior.

According to Bodyslam, the current idea being discussed is a singles match between McIntyre and Jacob Fatu. Fatu has been a thorn in McIntyre’s side for months, and a non-title grudge match between the two would give both stars a featured spot on the WrestleMania card without crowding the main event.

Fatu claims McIntyre is his mystery attacker, but McIntyre has denied those claims.

• Real Reason Cody Rhodes Lost The WWE Title In January

WWE has known for a while that Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton would eventually collide on the grandest stage. According to PWInsider and Fightful Select, a match between the two has been the plan for WrestleMania 42 since at least January.

The two stars were reportedly told about this direction over a month ago, even though it wasn’t clear to fans how the story would get there.

Interestingly, one of the main reasons WWE had Cody lose the Undisputed Title in January was to make sure he could be part of the Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber matches. The company felt his presence in those matches would help sell more tickets and draw more viewers to those events.

While things in WWE can always change at the last minute, the plan as of late February was still to have Orton face Rhodes in a singles match. Now that Orton has won the Elimination Chamber, everything seems to be moving exactly toward that goal for Las Vegas.

As previously noted, Cody is expected to defeat Drew and become a 3-time WWE Champion this Friday on SmackDown.
