During a recent interview with Metro, TNA/NWA Veteran Nick Aldis (fka Magnus) revealed why he didn’t sign with WWE, when he was a free agent earlier this year, prior to returning to IMPACT Wrestling.

Here’s what he had to say:

“As far as WWE, timing is everything. I don’t wanna speak to it too much, but timing was a big factor. I think everyone knows that there’s a lot going on there. Who knows?

I don’t wanna speak too much about my conversations with WWE. And I certainly don’t want to imply or suggest that I had a choice of anywhere to go.

That would be disingenuous or dishonest. It’s more about, what’s the best option right now? I did need a little bit of a mental break because I did put a lot of pressure on myself.”

Some sources reported that WWE was on a hiring freeze this year, that’s why they didn’t bring in Aldis, and he decided to go to IMPACT.

At last night’s IMPACT Wrestling’s Against All Odds PPV, Aldis became the #1 Contender for the IMPACT World Championship (tap here to read the complete results).

Nick Aldis first appeared in Dixie Carter’s Total Nonstop Action! (TNA) in 2008 as Brutus Magnus and later went just by ‘Magnus’, even managing to win the TNA World Heavyweight Championship in December 2013.

Magnus was released in June 2015 and joined Jeff Jarrett’s Global Force Wrestling (GFW) the next day, where he eventually became the inaugural GFW Global Champion in October 2015.

In September 2017, Aldis joined the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), that had been purchased by Billy Corgan a few months earlier, and ended up becoming the longest reigning NWA World Heavyweight Champion of the modern era, when he held the title from October 21st 2018 until August 29th 2021 (after already holding the belt from 2017 till 2018).
