As we have noted before, AEW Officials were discussing CM Punk vs. KENTA for this month’s AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door 2023 pay-per-view.

The storyline of this match was going to be simple – Punk took KENTA’s GTS finisher and Punk is now more synonymous with the move than KENTA.

KENTA recently noted that he’d like to have this match and would like to get paid a lot for it too.

However, he later tweeted the following:

“Kenta vs Punk is never going to happen.”

Fightful Select is now reporting that KENTA told NJPW Officials that he doesn’t want to face Punk anymore.

Right now, it is unknown if Punk will have a match at Forbidden Door, which takes place this Sunday night. Punk was open to having this match.

Punk returned this past Saturday on the debut episode of AEW Collision, and said that he’s the rightful AEW World Champion because nobody pinned or submitted him to win the Title.

In the main event, Punk teamed up with AEW World Tag Team Champions FTR to defeat ROH TV Champion Samoa Joe and Bullet Club Gold (Jay White & Juice Robinson).

Punk pinned Robinson to pick up the win for his team after hitting the GTS.

This episode drew 816,000 viewers with a 0.33 rating in the 18-49 demo.

Below is the current match-card for Forbidden Door 2023:

AEW World Championship Match: MJF (c) vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi

– Bryan Danielson vs. Kazuchika Okada

IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship Match: Kenny Omega (c) vs. Will Ospreay

IWGP World Heavyweight Championship Match: Sanada (c) vs. “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry

AEW International Championship Match: Orange Cassidy (c) vs. NJPW TV Champion Zack Sabre Jr.
