In his interview with Soy Eduardo Bates, Alberto Del Rio had high praise for WWE Intercontinental Champion and AAA Mega Champion Dominik Mysterio, calling him “a great wrestler” and predicting major success in his future.
“Dominik has it in his blood,” Del Rio said. “His father, Rey Mysterio, is the greatest of all time. Thanks to Rey, many of us Mexican wrestlers were able to achieve what we did internationally.”
Del Rio said Dominik has now stepped out of his father’s shadow, calling his recent accomplishments “only the beginning” and said Dom will become a World Champion in WWE.
He also praised Dirty Dom’s bilingual skills and deep understanding of the business: “He speaks both languages, he understands the industry completely – there’s nothing that can stop him. It was only a matter of time before he found his character.”
The former WWE Champion even expressed gratitude that Dominik once paid tribute to him on social media, adding that he took it as a sign of respect toward both himself and Rey Mysterio.
Also during this interview, Del Rio made a bold declaration about his legacy in professional wrestling, claiming he played a crucial role in the rebirth of Mexican wrestling.
Del Rio said his so-called “rebirth” as El Patrón wasn’t a comeback but rather the continuation of his lifelong passion for the sport. “I didn’t reinvent myself – I just kept doing what I’ve done all my life,” Del Rio explained. “I’m the only Mexican who’s accomplished what I have, and it will be many, many years before anyone does it again.”
He credited the Roldán Peña family, specifically Dorian Roldán, for their role in AAA’s resurgence, but said he was the “key piece” that made the revival happen. “Dorian had the master plan to make wrestling come alive again, and with the right figure – Alberto Del Rio – we achieved it,” he added.
Del Rio closed by saying his success formula – discipline, hard work, and love for the business – remains the same, whether in the United States or Mexico.
