We are saddened to announce that Old School NWA Territory Wrestler Brett Sawyer has passed away at the age of 63.
Brett Sawyer (Real name: Brett Woyan) was the (lesser known) real-life brother of NWA Legend Buzz Sawyer (Bruce Woyan), who passed away in 1992.
Brett wrestled professionally from his debut in 1976 until he retired in 1998.
During his career, he wrestled for several territories, including Georgia Championship Wrestling, Championship Wrestling from Florida, Jim Crockett Promotions, Pacific Northwest Wrestling, New Japan Pro-Wrestling, Southwest Championship Wrestling, … among many other promotions.
In 1991, Brett Sawyer wrestled 3 matches for Ted Turner’s World Championship Wrestling under the name ‘Brett Wayne’.
Famous Pro Wrestling journalist Bill Apter confirmed Brett’s death on Facebook, when he posted:
“Shocked to learn that Brett Sawyer has died.”
Former WCW referee Billy Silverman posted the following:
“Thoughts and Prayers go out to the friends and family of Brett Sawyer who has passed away!”
