Below are some top WWE news stories of the day, involving The Rock and Edge.

• At NXT New Year’s Evil 2025, Oba Femi defeated Trick Williams and Eddy Thorpe in a Triple Threat Match to win the NXT Championship.

The Rock also made an appearance on this episode and met Femi backstage.

During an interview with Cameron Hawkins of Uncrowned, Oba revealed what The Final Boss said to him backstage:

“No one ever [expects immediate success]. If they said they did, they lied. It was never a question of my capabilities as a performer. I’ve always known eventually I would get this thing down.

I’ve come around at a very opportune time when big-man wrestling is not the main thing. It’s become like a niche, almost a lost art because everyone’s doing Canadian Destroyers and everyone’s high flying and everyone’s spring-boarding, trying to pop the crowd.

It’s refreshing that the fans get to see an Oba Femi who comes in and stays on the ground and is physical and fires up and is riled up. I think people miss that.

[The Rock] said, ‘Good job, great match. Can’t wait to see you on the main roster.’”

• Adam Copeland aka Cope, fka Edge in WWE, reflected on being part of one of wrestling’s most infamous segments — the “live $ex celebration” with Lita on the January 9, 2006 episode of RAW.

Speaking on Up Close with Stephen Brunt, Edge revealed that the segment was sprung on him without much explanation. “You’re gonna have a live $ex celebration,” he recalled being told. “Really? What does that mean?; What is that? What are you talking about?”

Though the idea didn’t originate from Vince McMahon, it was approved, leaving Edge little room to object. “I just won the World Title, this is really what I wanted to accomplish in the industry, because that’s when you feel like, ‘I did it.’ They’ve gone this far with me now, I made this bed and now I have to lie in it and make it work. On live television.”

Years later, as a father, Edge admits the segment gives him pause. “Now that I have two kids, just dreading the day that pops up.”

Despite the discomfort, he rationalizes WWE’s decision. “Okay, it’s a character. If you watch an action movie, there is probably going to be a $ex scene. It is there in other forms of entertainment. In that regard, why can’t it be in wrestling? I would have preferred if it wasn’t me.”
