Hulk Hogan as WCW World Heavyweight Champion in 1995

On this day in Pro Wrestling history in 1995, the debut episode of WCW Monday Nitro aired on TNT. The show aired live from the Mall of America. This was the beginning of the Monday Night Wars.

Lex Luger made a shocking appearance on the episode and got into the face of then WCW World Heavyweight Champion Hulk Hogan during the main event.

– The American Males (Mark Bagwell and Scott Riggs) def. WCW World Tag Team Champions Bunkhouse Buck and Dick Slater (with Col. Robert Parker)
– Brian Pillman def. Jushin Liger
– WCW United States Heavyweight Champion Sting def. Ric Flair by DQ (Lex Luger made a surprise return to WCW in between this match)
– WCW World Heavyweight Champion Hulk Hogan (with Jimmy Hart) def. Big Bubba Rogers in a title match.

Lex Luger challenged Hulk Hogan for the WCW World Title after the match and Hogan agreed for a title match on next week’s episode of Nitro.
