• On This Day In Pro Wrestling History (April 16, 2020) – Old School WWF Legend Passed Away

On this day in 2020, we lost legendary Old School WWF Ring Announcer “The Fink” Howard Finkel at the age of 69 due to health issues.

Howard Finkel worked as a ring announcer for the World Wrestling Federation (World Wide Wrestling Federation during his early days) from 1975 until 2016, although he became a part timer during the early 2000s.

The Fink appeared at every WrestleMania from the first one in 1985 till WrestleMania 32, including an appearance in a toga as “Finkus Maximus” during WrestleMania IX.

In 2009 he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame by his close personal friend Mean Gene Okerlund.

• Old School WWF Legend Would Have Celebrated His Birthday

Today would have been the birthday of Old School WWF Legend George “The Animal” Steele (Real name: William Myers).

George Steele wrestled from 1967 until he retired in 1988, but still came out of retirement a couple of times in 1997 & 1998 (WWF), as well as in early 2000 when he wrestled Jeff Jarrett on an episode of WCW Monday NITRO.

Steele won the Slammy Award for “Best Performance by an Animal” in 1987.

In 1995 he was inducted into the World Wrestling Federation Hall of Fame (now WWE Hall of Fame) by Doink The Clown.

• Old School WCW Tag Team Veteran Celebrates His Birthday

Old School WCW Tag Team Veteran King Kong (Real name: Scott Thompson) celebrates his birthday today.

King Kong was one half of The Colossal Kongs, a Tag Team that most famously wrestled for Ted Turner’s World Championship Wrestling between June 1993 and December 1993.

The highlight of their WCW run was a match at ‘Clash of Champions 24’ on August 18th 1993 against Ric Flair & Sting.

King Kong eventually changed his name to Krusher Kong for copyright reasons.

The Colossal Kongs also wrestled for the Global Wrestling Federation and several smaller Texas-based promotions during the 90s.
