• On This Day In Pro Wrestling History (June 15, 1997) – WCW The Great American Bash 1997

On this day in Pro Wrestling history on June 15, 1997, Ted Turner’s World Championship Wrestling aired ‘WCW The Great American Bash 1997’ LIVE on PPV from the The MARK of the Quad in Moline, Illinois.

This was the 11th edition of WCW’s annual The Great American Bash events, although the 1986 & 1987 Great American Bash events were actually tours of several shows with the best matches making it to the VHS’, that made them being presented like 1 big event in both years, eventho they weren’t.

There was no Great American Bash in 1993 & 1994, but after WCW was sold to the World Wrestling Federation in 2001, Vince McMahon brought the pay-per-view back in 2004 under the WWE banner.

The results from that night:

Ultimate Dragon defeated Psychosis

Harlem Heat defeated The Steiner Brothers by DQ

Konnan defeated Hugh Morrus

Glacier defeated Wrath

WCW Women’s Championship vs. Career: Akira Hokuto (c) defeated Madusa

Death match: Chris Benoit defeated Meng

Kevin Greene defeated Steve McMichael

WCW World Tag Team Championship: The Outsiders (c) (with Syxx) defeated Ric Flair & Roddy Piper

Falls Count Anywhere: Randy Savage defeated Diamond Dallas Page

• Paul Heyman & Bruce Prichard Reportedly Couldn’t Get Along On The Brand Invitation Rule, Heyman Ignored Requests From USA Network

On Thursday evening, WWE announced that RAW and SmackDown creative teams would be merged and they would be led by Bruce Prichard, who would be replacing Paul Heyman as the Executive Director of RAW.

Twitter user SoDuTw, who has broken several stories in the past, reports that one of the reasons Heyman was removed from his position was because he and Bruce Prichard couldn’t get along on the Brand Invitation Rule WWE introduced last month.

This could be true, as WWE didn’t use the rule as much as they were expected to. Now that Prichard is running both shows, it would be easier for him to manage the rule.

In addition, he also said that USA Network wanted Heyman to utilize the 24/7 Championship in a better way, which he failed to do.

The 24/7 Championship also didn’t feature much on TV as it used to when it was introduced last year.
