• Penta Explains Why He Left AEW For WWE
The Lucha Brothers were a successful Tag Team in AEW, but in 2024, Penta left the promotion, while his brother Rey Fenix departed earlier this year. Both eventually made their way to WWE, debuting on separate brands, Penta on RAW and Fenix later on SmackDown.
Speaking to Mafufas Chronicles about their decision to leave AEW, Penta explained the difficulty of stepping away from a familiar environment and wanting to join WWE to grow as a pro wrestler.
“We spent 5 years there in AEW, which I’m grateful for. But eventually, I was fully Penta, my brother was fully Rey Fenix and the opportunity came for me to go to WWE.
Believe me many people say ‘Bro, what were you waiting for? Go!’ It was a very hard decision. A really tough one, because you’re basically going in blind. You’re taking a chance.
You’re leaving your comfort zone, where you already know how things work, where you earn certain money, you can wrestle wherever you want…it’s comfortable. I also had more creative control in AEW. But deep down, you know there’s something missing. It wasn’t money, it wasn’t fame… it was competitive hunger. Growth. That’s what finally took us to WWE.
My brother. He can tell you himself, we were still working for the other company, and in the hotels we’d be like, going over the pros and cons with things. We came together, we leave together. What do we do?”
Penta suffered a shoulder injury during his match with Solo Sikoa in The Last Time Is Now Tournament on RAW last week.
• AEW Wants To Avoid Booking Top Star In Singles Matches
Kenny Omega has spent his career wrestling high-risk, physically demanding matches all over the world, which has taken a significant toll on his body.
From late 2021 into 2022, the former AEW World Champion was sidelined for nine months due to a series of injuries that required extensive recovery. He later missed all of 2024 after being diagnosed with diverticulitis in December 2023, a condition that further complicated his ability to perform at a high level.
After his extended time away from in-ring competition, Omega reunited with The Young Bucks at Full Gear last month, reforming The Elite.
According to the Wrestling Observer, AEW’s decision to have Omega team with Matt and Nick Jackson is primarily intended to protect him from additional strain. By focusing on trios action rather than lengthy singles bouts, the company is hoping to extend the 42-year-old’s in-ring career.
Kenny Omega recently said that he has been thinking a lot about retirement lately.
• Ricochet Takes A Shot At Carmelo Hayes, Hayes Fires Back
Carmelo Hayes went toe-to-toe with GUNTHER in the quarterfinals of The Last Time Is Now Tournament on RAW last week and came up short, but he impressed a lot of people with his performance.
Hayes then posted a short clip from the match on X, writing: “Been a Dawg long before I was an Underdog”
AEW National Champion Ricochet jumped in with a reply, taking a playful jab at Hayes by referencing WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry’s recent comments. Henry said that Je’Von Evans could become a world champion in 15 years after his breakout performances, including his RAW match with GUNTHER at Madison Square Garden.
Here’s what Ricochet wrote: “15 more years and you’ll be main eventing WrestleMania! Go get em!”
Hayes fired right back with a shot of his own, aiming directly at Ricochet’s hairline: “And I’ll still have all my hair”
Ricochet then answered with a GIF of Kevin Hart saying “Damn.”
