Below are a couple of top WWE news stories of the day, featuring CM Punk, Roman Reigns, Edge & Randy Orton.
• Possible Date For Big Tag Team Match Involving CM Punk & Roman Reigns
On the RAW after WrestleMania 41, Paul Heyman’s new alliance of Bron Breakker and Seth Rollins ruthlessly beat down both CM Punk and Roman Reigns.
According to the Wrestling Observer, this could potentially be leading to a tag match between Rollins & Breakker and Reigns & Punk.
Whilst initial rumours speculated this match may take place at Backlash, it is now being reported that WWE are saving this match for a bigger PLE, like Money In The Bank or SummerSlam.
It is important to note this year’s SummerSlam will be a 2-night event for the first time ever. Therefore WWE will be looking for some high profile matches to fill the card for both nights.
As previously reported, Roman’s next PLE appearance will be at Money In The Bank in June.
• “Pretty Ridiculous” – Edge On Greatest Wrestling Match Against Randy Orton
Edge wrestled Randy Orton in a match billed as the “greatest wrestling match ever” at WWE Backlash 2020.
Speaking with Inside the Ropes, Edge looked back at the match, which happened during the pandemic, and pointed out that WWE’s promotion of the bout created expectations that were impossible to meet.
Here’s what the Rated-R Superstar said:
“It felt like a no-win situation. I definitely wish that Backlash match could have been in front of more than just 20 students at the PC, because I’m still really proud of it, and the circumstances that Randy and I were put in to pull something off were pretty ridiculous.
You tell me, ‘We’re going to build the greatest wrestling match ever, only there’s no audience.’ Well, what does that even mean? There’s no such thing as the greatest anything, unless you’re in an actual athletic contest. We know who the best hockey team is, they win the Stanley Cup.
There’s no such thing as a greatest match, because it’s different for everybody. But okay, here we go, let’s give something a shot here. And it was super fun. It was a great challenge, but I wish that one had an audience, for sure.”
When asked if the match would have been better with fans present, Edge stated, “With a crowd, they would have been all over that. It would have been so good.”
