In the co-main event of SummerSlam 2017, “The Modern Day Maharaja” Jinder Mahal will defend the WWE Championship against the former two time NXT Champion, Shinsuke Nakamura. Nakamura became the #1 contender for the WWE Title after defeating John Cena on SmackDown Live.
There’s a lot of speculation going on regarding the WWE Title picture at SummerSlam 2017, with rumor being that Nakamura would defeat Mahal to win the Title, but only to lose the Title minutes later to a Money In The Bank cash-in by Baron Corbin. However, that might not happen.
According to the betting odds (which are correct 95% of the times, Mahal is currently the favorite to walk out of SummerSlam 2017 still the WWE Champion. Another possible hint towards Mahal retaining the WWE Title at SummerSlam 2017 is the fact that he’ll be appearing at UFC 215 PPV on September 9 to accompany Indian fighter Arjan Bhullar to the Octagon and it’s very much possible that Vince McMahon wants Jinder to carry the belt during that UFC appearance (so still remain the WWE Champion). Below is what Arjan posted on Instagram:
When we as a people can genuinely support each other amazing is possible. I was able to watch The Maharaja do his thing in Vancouver and now I’m excited to announce @wwe Champ @jindermahal will be taking time away from his busy schedule to accompany the Team for my debut fight in his home province of Alberta. Shout out to the boss @danawhite for hooking up the VIP treatment #indian #onebillionstrong #punjabi #pride #support #loyal #humble #respect #wwe #ufc
