Possible Spoiler Regarding Title Change At SummerSlam 2018

SummerSlam

• On This Day In Pro Wrestling History (August 9, 1997) – ECW Born To Be Wired

On this day in Pro Wrestling history on August 9, 1997, ECW Born To Be Wired took place.

Sabu became the new ECW World Heavyweight Champion on this night, when he defeated Terry Funk in a Barbed Wire match.

The main event was very brutal. Both the wrestlers were wrapped up in barbed to such an extent that they could barely move. Due to this, Sabu decided to end the match there itself, rather then free himself from the barbed wire and do a few more spots before ending the match.

During an interview, ECW promoter Paul Heyman noted that the level of violence bothered him so much, he would never again book such a match. Below are the results from the show:

– Little Guido def. Pablo Marquez

– Mikey Whipwreck def. Louie Spicolli

– Spike Dudley def. Bam Bam Bigelow

– Chris Candido def. Chris Chetti

– Shane Douglas def. Lance Storm

– Taz def. Al Snow to retain the ECW World TV Title.

– Dudley Boyz def. Balls Mahoney, Axl Rotten & Hack Meyers

– Rob Van Dam def. Tommy Dreamer

– Sabu def. Terry Funk in a Barbed Wire match to become the new ECW World Heavyweight Champion.

• Possible Spoiler Regarding Title Change At SummerSlam 2018

As seen on this week’s episode of SmackDown Live, The New Day won the SmackDown Tag Team tournament by defeating The Bar (Sheamus & Cesaro) to become the #1 contenders for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles.

The New Day will now face The Bludgeon Brothers for the Titles at SummerSlam 2018.

Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer noted that WWE were looking to break some tag team records with The New Day and this could result in The New Day defeating The Bludgeon Brothers to win the SmackDown Tag Team Titles at SummerSlam 2018.

WWE officials have already booked The New Day to beat Demolition’s record of having the longest Tag Team Title reign a few years back (although they didn’t break it technically as they held different Titles).

The next record that WWE officials are looking to break with The New Day is the record of holding the most Tag Team Titles in WWE by a single team.

The New Day are currently former 4 time Tag Team Champions and they would have to double that number to be near that record.

If The New Day captures the SmackDown Tag Team Titles at SummerSlam 2018, then they would equal The Usos as 5 time Tag Team Champions.
