2. Real Reason Behind Kevin Owens Losing The United States Championship To AJ Styles, Change In SummerSlam 2017 Plans For Raw Title

Real Reason Behind Kevin Owens Losing The United States Championship To AJ Styles

As we all know, “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles defeated Kevin Owens at a WWE Live Event in Madison Sqaure Garden to capture the United States Championship and end Owens’ second reign as the US Champion.

While the reason behind WWE booking this Title change at a non-televised show was to generate interest in Live Events and eventually increase future ticket sales due to it, but the reason behind Owens losing the Title to Styles is something different. WWE officials didn’t want too many anti-American storylines on SmackDown Live – Kevin Owens was doing the “Face of America” angle while being from Canada, WWE Champion Jinder Mahal is in an anti-USA angle with Randy Orton and Rusev most of the times is involved in anti-USA storylines. So they decided to move away from Owens’ “Face of America” angle by making him drop the Title to Styles.

Change In SummerSlam 2017 Plans For Raw Title

As we noted before, there were plans for the Raw Women’s Championship to be defended in a Fatal 4 Way match at SummerSlam 2017 between Alexa Bliss, Nia Jax, Sasha Banks & Bayley.

However, those plans have been dropped now and Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer is reporting that a singles Raw Women’s Title match will take place at SummerSlam 2017.

As we saw on this week’s episode of Raw, it was announced that Bayley will face Sasha Banks next week on Raw and the winner of this match will face Alexa Bliss for the Raw Women’s Championship at SummerSlam 2017.

It should be noted that this isn’t the first original Title plan that was cancelled for SummerSlam 2017, as the original plan for the WWE Championship match at SummerSlam 2017 between Jinder Mahal & John Cena has been cancelled as well.
