Randy Orton Broke The Undertaker’s SummerSlam Record Last Night

Last night, Randy Orton competed in his 17th SummerSlam match, thus setting the record for the most matches in SummerSlam history, surpassing The Undertaker, who wrestled 16 matches at the biggest event of the summer.

The following is the list of their SummerSlam matches (not total appearances, as they have also appeared in non-wrestling roles at this event):

List of Randy Orton’s SummerSlam matches

2003: Elimination Chamber for the World Heavyweight Championship – Faced Kevin Nash, Chris Jericho, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, and Goldberg. Orton was eliminated by Goldberg; Triple H retained the title.

2004: World Heavyweight Championship – Defeated Chris Benoit to win the title, becoming the youngest World Heavyweight Champion in WWE history at age 24.

2005: Singles Match – Defeated The Undertaker via pinfall after interference from his father, “Cowboy” Bob Orton, posing as a fan.

2006: Singles Match – Lost to Hulk Hogan in a “Legend vs. Legend Killer” match.

2007: WWE Championship – Lost to John Cena.

2009: WWE Championship – Retained the title against John Cena after multiple match restarts due to interference and controversial finishes.

2010: WWE Championship – Lost to Sheamus via disqualification after assaulting the referee; Sheamus retained the title. Orton delivered an RKO on the announce table post-match.

2011: World Heavyweight Championship – Defeated Christian in a No Holds Barred match to win the title with an RKO on the steel steps.

2013: WWE Championship – Defeated Daniel Bryan to win the title after cashing in his Money In The Bank contract, with Triple H as the special guest referee turning heel to aid Orton.

2014: Singles Match – Lost to Roman Reigns.

2015: Singles Match – Lost to Sheamus.

2016: Singles Match – Lost to Brock Lesnar via technical knockout after Lesnar caused a laceration requiring 10 staples.

2017: Singles Match – Defeated Rusev.

2019: WWE Championship – Lost to Kofi Kingston.

2020: WWE Championship – Lost to Drew McIntyre.

2021: RAW Tag Team Championship – Teamed with Matt Riddle to defeat AJ Styles and Omos, winning the titles.

2025: Tag Team Match – Teamed with Jelly Roll to lose to Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul.

1992: Singles Match – Defeated Kamala via disqualification.

1993: Singles Match – Defeated Giant Gonzalez.

1994: Singles Match – Defeated the impostor Undertaker (Brian Lee) in a match billed as The Undertaker vs. The Undertaker.

1995: Casket Match – Defeated Kama.

1996: Boiler Room Brawl – Lost to Mankind after interference from Paul Bearer.

1997: WWF Championship – Lost to Bret Hart, with Shawn Michaels as the special guest referee, who inadvertently aided Hart’s victory.

1998: WWF Championship – Lost to Stone Cold Steve Austin.

1999: Tag Team Championship – Teamed with The Big Show to defeat Kane and X-Pac to win the WWF Tag Team Championship.

2000: Singles Match – faced Kane in a match that ended in a No Contest.

2001: Steel Cage Match for the Tag Team Championship – Teamed with Kane to defeat DDP and Kanyon, becoming the WWF & WCW Tag Team Champions.

2002: Singles Match – Defeated Test.

2003: Singles Match – Defeated A-Train (with Sable).

2004: WWE Championship – Lost to John “Bradshaw” Layfield (JBL) via disqualification after hitting JBL with the title belt; post-match, Undertaker chokeslammed JBL through a limousine roof.

2005: Singles Match – Lost to Randy Orton after interference from Bob Orton posing as a fan.

2008: Hell in a Cell – Defeated Edge.

2015: Singles Match – Defeated Brock Lesnar in a controversial finish after a timekeeper error; Lesnar applied a Kimura lock, and Undertaker tapped out, but the referee did not see it, allowing the match to continue.
