On this day in Pro Wrestling history on January 7, 2001, Paul Heyman’s Extreme Championship Wrestling aired ‘ECW Guilty as Charged 2001’ LIVE on PPV from the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City, New York.
This was the last ever ECW pay-per-view (not counting the 2005 & 2006 ECW PPVs produced by the WWE) before the company closed its doors a week later.
Most of the big names from the promotion’s past, such as Sabu, Shane Douglas, Raven, Taz, The Dudley Boyz, Mike Awesome and Perry Saturn, had already been gone at this point in time.

• Real Reason WWE Added Brock Lesnar To The Men’s Royal Rumble 2020 Match
WWE Champion Brock Lesnar returned to WWE programming in the opening segment of this week’s RAW.
Paul Heyman announced that there’s no one on RAW, SmackDown or NXT who’s worthy of facing Lesnar for the WWE Championship, so Lesnar will enter the Men’s Royal Rumble 2020 match as the #1 entrant.

According to WrestleVotes, WWE booked Lesnar in the Rumble match to set up his match at WrestleMania 36, where his opponent could be from SmackDown or NXT:
“WWE is doing this Lesnar in the Rumble angle as a way to set up Brock’s Mania matchup. Which could signal its against someone from SD or NXT as Heyman mentioned a few times last night. Opens up a world of possibilities.”
