Below are a couple of top AEW & WWE news stories of the day.
• Music is a vital part of professional wrestling, enhancing the experience with theme songs for both individual wrestlers and entire shows. AEW Collision had been using Elton John’s “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting” as its theme song since the show’s debut in June 2023. However, the theme was changed during the July 20th episode, and the reason behind this change has now been explained.
On the July 20th episode, AEW Collision introduced a new opening theme song, replacing Elton John’s track with an in-house creation instead of a licensed song. This change disappointed some fans who had enjoyed the original theme.

The Wrestling Observer explained that AEW Collision switched to a new in-house track as part of cost-saving measures. Production cutbacks led to replacing the licensed Elton John song with a more budget-friendly option:
“Regarding AEW Collision’s previous theme, there’s a lot of cutbacks being made in production. AEW replaced the Elton John song and put their own new song in place, and obviously that’s a cost-saving thing.”
• Drew McIntyre will face CM Punk at SummerSlam 2024, with Seth Rollins as the Special Guest Referee.
McIntyre mocked Punk today by posting a photo with AEW wrestler Jack Perry. Here’s what he wrote:
“It’s a real photo, cry us a river.”
For those who don’t know, Punk told Perry to not use real glass during matches, as it’s dangerous. Perry didn’t listen and used real glass during his match against Hook at AEW All In 2023. Perry then looked at the camera and said:
“It’s real glass, cry me a river.”
Punk and Perry had a backstage altercation at All In after this, which resulted in Perry being suspended and Punk being fired from All Elite Wrestling. Punk ended up returning to WWE a few months later.
