At last night’s SummerSlam 2017 PPV, “The Modern Day Maharaja” Jinder Mahal defeated former two time NXT Champion Shinsuke Nakamura to retain the WWE Championship.
Despite not being the favorite to win the match, Mahal ended up winning the match after hitting the Khallas on Nakamura.
One of the reasons for Jinder retaining the Title is that he will be appearing at the upcoming UFC 215 PPV on September 9 to accompany Indian fighter Arjan Bhullar to the Octagon and it’s very much possible that Vince McMahon wants Jinder to carry the WWE Title belt during this UFC appearance (so he was booked to remain the WWE Champion).
Since the victory wasn’t clean, the Mahal-Nakamura feud for the WWE Championship will continue on this week’s episode of SmackDown Live.
