Ashante “Thee” Adonis’ time in WWE has officially come to an end, with his deal expiring on August 10. Unlike recent talent cuts, this wasn’t a sudden release – WWE had informed him weeks in advance that they would not be renewing his contract.

Brought back to the company during the wave of returns in the summer of 2022, Ashante (real name Tehuti Miles) was part of a group that largely signed three-year deals at the time. Many from that batch have since been released before their contracts were up, but in his case, the agreement simply ran its course. His last WWE television appearance came well before the expiration date.

Even after spending the past year competing primarily in NXT, Ashante was still under a main roster contract, according to Fightful Select. People within WWE’s developmental system spoke highly of his work ethic, noting that he regularly trained at the Performance Center and even put in extra time working independently to sharpen his skills.

Now a free agent with no non-compete clause, Ashante is already eligible to accept bookings. There’s been early interest from TNA Wrestling, where he previously stepped into the ring this past January against Jake Something.

Ashante issued the following statement after his departure:

“After 6 unforgettable years under the WWE lights, the time has come for me to close that chapter. I’m filled with nothing but gratitude for every opportunity, the experiences, lessons, and incredible talent I’ve had the chance to work with.

I’m truly excited to show the world what I can really do. Sometimes you gotta get off multiplayer and progress your story mode. I believe i’m the face of the future and the reason your girl stopped texting you back.

This is a brand new beginning. I am becoming the best version of myself. You have only seen a glimpse of my true potential, and im just scratching the surface. I know that to some this can be a dark time, but stars can’t shine without darkness.

WWE veteran Natalya tweeted the following about Ashante:

“The work Ashante puts in at The Dungeon every week is inspiring. @tehutimiles is a WORKHORSE. The day he got the call that he was no longer w the company, he came to train with us and gave back to everyone. He always does. He poured his heart out on the mat. Forward is forward.”
