In 2022, VICE already released a different documentary about Vince McMahon on their own, with the title ‘The 9 Lives of Vince McMahon’, but critics didn’t have anything good to say about it, as it mostly featured clips from past ‘Dark Side of the Ring’ episodes, with only a few newer Interviews in between.

Other than that, there was only the WWE produced 2006 DVD ‘McMahon’, that contained an obviously 100% biased documentary on Vince McMahon.

In 2020, it was announced that Netflix would produce an exclusive Vince McMahon documentary, but since then rumors began spreading, that the project was scrapped.

However, during a recent SI Media interview, Bill Simmons confirmed that the movie is still in the works and will be released in early 2024.

Here’s what he had to say:

“Oh yeah, the Vince McMahon documentary is happening. It’s f****** awesome. I think it’s gonna be the first part of next year, and Chris Smith is directing it. I don’t know if he’s one of the five best documentary directors or one of the best three or whatever.

Whatever short list it’s on, he’s on it and we spent a lot of time on it and I don’t wanna say too much, yes, I had access to Vince. Well that was the initial conceit of it so I don’t wanna say too much but I will say that I think it has a chance to be pretty spectacular.”

On July 22nd 2022, long-time WWF/WWE promoter Vince McMahon officially retired from all his positions within WWE as a result of the infamous hush money & se*ual misconduct scandals.

However, Mr. McMahon returned to WWE’s Board of Directors on January 6th 2023 to prepare the eventual sale of the company for $9.3 billion to UFC parent Endeavor Group Holdings that was announced in April 2023 and finalized in September 2023.

It was recently reported that Vince will not have final editing authority over his Netflix documentary.
