Rey Mysterio Got Hurt Twice On SmackDown

Rey Mysterio faced off against Santos Escobar on last week’s episode of SmackDown for a shot at Austin Theory’s United States Championship.

Escobar defeated Mysterio via Doctor’s Stoppage to earn the title match, which will take place on the SmackDown after SummerSlam.

The commentary team announced that Mysterio got hurt after he found himself at the receiving end of Escobar’s Suicide Dive. The doctor checked on Mysterio and made it clear that he wouldn’t be able to continue the match.

The Wrestling Observer noted that Mysterio may have gotten hurt twice.

They noted that in the first spot, Mysterio took a Crossbody from Escobar a couple of minutes before the match ended, and it left him stunned. Escobar backed off and the referee went to check on Mysterio. Mysterio then took a Tope Suicida spot, where he hit his head.

The Tope Suicida spot was said to be the second injury and not a work from the first injury. The original injury apparently occurred due to the Crossbody.

Whether Mysterio will take time off from in-ring competition or not is unknown yet.

However, The Master Of The 619 announced on this week’s NXT that he will be in Dragon Lee’s corner for his NXT North American Championship match against “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio next Tuesday.
