AAA Lucha Libre honored him, highlighting his profound impact on the sport as a performer and mentor. He shared memorable moments in the ring with his nephew, including a 1995 WWA Tag Team Championship win. Misterio Sr. also teamed with other legends like El Dandy and his son, El Hijo del Rey Misterio.

Rey Mysterio issued the following statement regarding the death of his uncle (translated to English):

“Today we celebrate the life of my uncle in the Tijuana Auditorium… my second father Miguel Ángel López Díaz ‘Rey Misterio’

2 Blows in a row in a matter of a month apart… it’s super hard to assimilate everything that happened but I understand that eventually the same fate awaits us.

My consolation in these moments of pain and sadness is to remember all the moments I lived with him since my childhood, everything I learned and the most beautiful thing for me because it is what runs through us, all the moments that, thank God, I was able to share with him. His side inside a ring!

Thank you Mike for paving the beginning of Lucha Libre in our family, we understand and value your effort and the sacrifices you made so that we could follow your path and we promise you that the 3 Mysterios that carry the name will always take it to the highest and in your honor.

No more pain in you, only eternal life!!

RIP 1958-2024

Give my father a hug

I love you…

I love you both and I WILL MISS you a lot!!!”
