Ric Flair has spoken—and he’s firmly in Cody Rhodes’ corner heading into WrestleMania 41.
During a recent appearance on Busted Open Radio, the two-time WWE Hall of Famer gave his unfiltered thoughts on the highly anticipated WWE Championship match between Cody Rhodes and John Cena, and he didn’t hold back in picking a winner.
“Cody, because he’s on a roll,” Flair said confidently when asked who he believes will leave WrestleMania with the gold. While acknowledging Cena’s legendary status, Flair suggested the 16-time World Champion isn’t chasing titles anymore. “To be honest with you, I don’t think John wants to retire with the title,” he said. “John is a company guy. He wants what’s best for business.”
Flair’s take aligns with the growing sentiment among fans and analysts that Cena has shifted his focus from winning championships to elevating younger talent. For Flair, that mindset is exactly why Rhodes retaining makes the most sense. “I’m happy for everybody. It’s going to be a great show,” he added.
Despite his excitement for WrestleMania 41, Flair admitted that his ties to AEW complicate his involvement in WWE events. Currently signed with All Elite Wrestling, Flair explained, “It’s very difficult for me to participate in the activities while I’m working for Tony (Khan).” That said, he had nothing but praise for his current boss, calling Khan “the greatest guy in the world.”
Even from across company lines, Flair continues to keep a close eye on WWE. His take on Rhodes vs. Cena reinforces his support for today’s top stars—and his appreciation for the current wrestling landscape. “I’m glad there’s two companies because that’s more opportunities for guys to work,” Flair noted.
As WrestleMania 41 approaches, The Nature Boy’s endorsement of Cody Rhodes only adds more heat to the biggest match of the year.
