• Ricky Steamboat Says He Turned Down Ric Flair’s Last Match Offer Due To Fear Of Flair Dying In The Ring

On July 31st 2022, Ric Flair had his last match. He teamed up with his son-in-law Andrade El Idolo to defeat the team of Jeff Jarrett & Jay Lethal.

Flair’s old storyline rival Ricky Steamboat was given an offer to be a part of this match, but The Dragon turned it down.

Ric later went on to say that Ricky turned down the match because he wanted fans to have a good memory of him from 2009, where he received a “you still got it” chant from the crowd during his match against Chris Jericho.

However, a few months later on November 27th 2022, Steamboat came out of retirement after 12 years for a match.

He teamed up with FTR to defeat Nick Aldis, Jay Lethal & Brock Anderson.

During an interview with Bill Apter, Steamboat revealed the truth about why he turned down Flair’s Last Match – due to the fear of The Nature Boy dying in the ring.

Below is what Steamboat said:

“Initially, you know, Conrad, who’s the promoter, we talked, we went to Nashville, and we had a sit down, and it was Conrad, his wife, and me and my wife, Sandy.

I was still training quite well and feeling damn well. So I said okay, and we hadn’t signed or sealed the deal on the money part of it.

But what put the nail in the coffin was a week after that when I found out Flair was wearing a pacemaker.

All these years, I never knew, and I immediately said I don’t think I wanna do this. I don’t want my legacy to be, you know, I was in a ring with when he happened to pass away or something went wrong.”
