Below are a couple of top WrestleMania 41 news stories of the day, featuring Roman Reigns and Gunther.
• Roman Reigns’ 7-Year WrestleMania Streak Is Over
Seth Rollins defeated Roman Reigns and CM Punk in the main event of WrestleMania 41 Saturday, after Paul Heyman turned heel on both Reigns and Punk, and aligned with Rollins in the end.
This loss meant that for the first time in 7 years, Roman did not register a victory at a WrestleMania he competed in.
After losing to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 34, Reigns picked up a win at every WrestleMania he competed in, until last night. While Reigns lost on Night 2 of WrestleMania 40, he still picked up a win on Night 1 of last year.
Below is Reigns’ WrestleMania record since 2018:
WrestleMania 34 – lost to Brock Lesnar
WrestleMania 35 – defeated Drew McIntyre
WrestleMania 36 – missed the show
WrestleMania 37 – defeated Edge and Daniel Bryan
WrestleMania 38 – defeated Brock Lesnar
WrestleMania 39 – defeated Cody Rhodes
WrestleMania 40 (Night 1) – teamed up with The Rock to defeat Cody Rhodes & Seth Rollins
WrestleMania 40 (Night 2) – lost to Cody Rhodes
WrestleMania 41 – lost to Seth Rollins in a triple threat match involving CM Punk
• Triple H Reacts To Gunther’s Submission Loss At WrestleMania 41
In the opening match of Night 1 of WrestleMania 41, Jey Uso made Gunther tap out to win the World Heavyweight Championship.
During the post show, Triple H said the following about Gunther’s loss and Jey’s victory:
“Gunther vs. Jey was everything it needed to be. People sometimes perform differently in wins and losses. The pros to me, the ones that are the best, perform the best sometimes in the loss and in that loss, sometimes you come out in a better place.
Gunther, to me, showed why he is absolutely, undoubtedly one of the best in the world and Jey Uso… when you have 61,467 people going crazy like that, doing the entrance and the Yeet and all that… it’s just an impressive thing. Really happy for him.
Jey’s transformation over the last couple of years through the Bloodline story and coming out of it and doing his own thing… showed why the name ‘Main Event’ Jey Uso is a fitting name for him.”
