Below are a couple of top WWE news stories of the day, involving Roman Reigns and John Cena.

• Roman Reigns made a surprising return at SummerSlam, attacking Solo Sikoa instead of Cody Rhodes and has been dominant ever since. However, he is no longer being advertised for a major episode of Friday Night SmackDown.

On the August 9th episode of SmackDown, Reigns asserted his dominance over The Bloodline, but on the August 16th edition, Jacob Fatu returned and took down The OTC.

Earlier this month, WWE advertised Reigns for the debut episode of Friday Night SmackDown on the USA Network, scheduled for September 13th at the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle. However, Reigns has since been removed from the main graphic and the ‘Featured Superstars’ section for that episode on WWE’s official website.

• John Cena plans to retire from in-ring action in WWE at the end of 2025, but will remain with the company for the long term.

Cena aims to wrestle throughout the next year, targeting 36 dates with WWE, and will also appear on the first RAW on Netflix.

While speaking on Club Shay Shay, Cena confirmed that he signed an extension to stay with WWE after 2025. Here’s what the 16-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion said:

“I’m a champion of the brand. I love the company. It is my home. They are my family. Even after 2025, I’ve already signed an extension to remain a member of the WWE family for the near, mid, and long-term future. I don’t think there will be a beat of my heart where WWE blood doesn’t come out of it. That said, without them, I don’t exist.”

He added that he hopes his final tour is successful and memorable, and he doesn’t want to overstay his welcome as his in-ring skills decline.
