• Roman Reigns’ WrestleMania 37 Opponent (Spoiler)

As we exclusively reported last month, there have been talks of doing Roman Reigns vs. Edge for the Universal Championship in the main event of one of the nights of WrestleMania 37.

One of the major reasons behind Edge challenging Reigns at WrestleMania is the fact that there aren’t any credible babyface challengers left for Reigns on SmackDown.

Big E is currently involved in the Intercontinental Title picture and WWE doesn’t want to rush and push him into the main event World Title picture this early in his post-New Day singles run.

Shinsuke Nakamura recently turned babyface, but he’s more of a mid-carder at this point and WWE will need to re-build him again if they want to turn him into a credible main event wrestler.

Daniel Bryan’s name was also brought up during WrestleMania discussions for Roman Reigns, but Bryan is facing the same issue. He isn’t seen as a threat to Reigns when he lost matches to Jey Uso and Cesaro recently.

WWE still plans to do Roman Reigns vs. Daniel Bryan, but they will most likely do it at Elimination Chamber or FastLane PPVs (both of which are scheduled to take place before WrestleMania 37).

The Wrestling Observer has now confirmed our report as Edge is scheduled to challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship after winning the Men’s Royal Rumble 2021 match:

“Not sure when this will be officially announced, but Roman Reigns vs. Edge is the planned main event at WrestleMania.”
