Below are a couple of top AEW news stories of the day.
• According to Fightful Select, Miro (Rusev in WWE) has requested his release from AEW after being sidelined for the entirety of 2024.
Miro had been out of action longer than AEW anticipated following the Worlds End 2023 PPV, despite being healthy for some time.
He pitched a storyline with Jon Moxley earlier in the year, but creative differences between him and AEW prevented it from moving forward. These disagreements have reportedly been frequent in recent years.
Miro (who’s making 7 figures in the company) had signed a four-year extension with AEW in 2022, keeping him under contract until Spring 2026. It’s unclear if his release has been granted or if WWE is interested in his return.

• Ricky Starks has been absent from AEW programming since late March, sparking speculation about a potential move to WWE, since Triple H is interested in signing him. However, it’s now confirmed that Starks won’t be released from his AEW contract.
Starks last appeared on TV on AEW Collision on March 30th in a tag team match, where he may have sustained an injury, though the exact reason for his absence remains unclear.
After a fan speculated about Starks potentially joining WWE (due to NXT moving to The CW Network and SmackDown rumored to move to 3 hours next year), WrestlePurists responded, “Ricky Starks is under AEW contract and will not be granted a release. I do not know why he keeps coming up in these conversations.”
This puts an end to the rumors, for now.
