Below are a couple of top WWE & AEW news stories of the day, featuring Sabu and The Briscoe Brothers.

• ECW Legend Sabu seems to have reached the end of his in-ring career at 59, having last wrestled in 2021. Now, he faces constant pain and the emotional toll of losing his partner, Melissa Coates, three years ago.

In a heartbreaking post on X, Sabu shared, “I don’t really enjoy anything anymore, I just survive.”

During the 1990s, Sabu was considered one of the most innovative wrestlers, with some even debating whether he was the best performer in the world. However, his lack of long-term runs in major promotions and his reputation for not being as polished as stars like Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart prevented him from gaining wider recognition.

Despite this, Sabu became a cult figure in ECW, playing a major role in the promotion’s success. Unfortunately, his intense style took a toll on his body, leading to hip surgery in 2017, which he had to fund through a GoFundMe campaign due to not having earned major money in his career.

• The Briscoe Brothers seemed poised for big success after making a name for themselves in Ring of Honor, but their chance to move to WWE never happened due to a controversial tweet from Jay Briscoe.

In the tweet, Jay expressed opposition to same-$ex marriage, stating, “Try and teach my kids that there’s nothing wrong with that, and I’ll f**king shoot you.” Although Jay later apologized, the damage was done, and the brothers missed their opportunity to perform on a larger stage.

In a recent interview with AIPT Comics, AEW star Mark Briscoe revealed that if not for Jay’s tweet, they would have signed with WWE and joined The Wyatt Family in 2013. Mark shared, “We were going to debut with The Wyatt Family,” which could have significantly impacted WWE’s history.

Tragically, Jay Briscoe, whose real name was Jamin Pugh, passed away in a car accident in January 2023. The loss led Mark to consider retiring from wrestling, but he chose to continue, and his decision was validated when he won the ROH World Championship.

While the pain of losing his brother remains, Mark paid tribute to Jay by naming his eighth child Matthew Jamin.
