Fans have been puzzled by Giulia’s lack of direction in WWE lately – no major feuds, limited TV time, and a pairing with Kiana James that hasn’t gained much traction. This past Friday on SmackDown, Giulia lost the Women’s United States Championship to Chelsea Green.
According to Fightful Select, the problem isn’t Giulia herself – it’s the Women’s U.S. Title.
When asked why the Japanese star seems stuck in creative limbo, Fightful noted that WWE never had a concrete plan for the Women’s U.S. Title in the first place. The Women’s U.S. Championship was introduced as more of a reactive move than a long-term creative investment.
The belt was reportedly created after Chelsea Green and Michin delivered a standout feud without any championship involved. WWE wanted a secondary title to spotlight more women’s storylines. The same goes for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship, which Becky Lynch helped make relevant.
However, after the initial buzz, WWE didn’t allocate much creative focus or TV time to the new belt.
Big Reason Why Giulia Lost The Women’s U.S. Championship
On last week’s SmackDown, AAA Mixed Tag Team Champion Chelsea Green defeated Giulia to win the Women’s United States Championship.
Kiana James interfered in the match and attacked Chelsea. Alba Fyre took out Kiana. Giulia then took out Alba. Chelsea took advantage of a distracted Giulia and pinned her using the ropes.
Chelsea is now a 2-time U.S. Champion and a double champion. Giulia, who is also a former NXT Women’s Champion, tweeted the following about her loss:
“I’m angry at myself, Chelsea…..at EVERYTHING.
That’s real funny dumba$$.
Just watch. I’m going tear it all apart.”
According to Cory Hays, WWE’s plan for Giulia a few weeks ago was to have her enter the main event / WWE Women’s Championship picture soon, which could be the possible reason behind her U.S. Title loss.
Before losing the title, Giulia broke Chelsea’s record for the longest Women’s U.S. Title reign. Giulia’s reign lasted 133 days.
