• Samoa Joe Is In Concussion Protocol, His Replacement In World Title Story Revealed

A significant shake-up is underway in the AEW main event scene following a health scare for one of its top stars. While AEW noted on a recent episode of Dynamite that Samoa Joe was sidelined by a “non-contact injury,” the reality behind the scenes is more complex.

According to Fightful Select, the former AEW World Champion has actually been placed in concussion protocol. As of now, there is no official timetable for his return to the ring.

This unexpected absence forced a major pivot in AEW’s creative plans. Joe was originally set to be a focal point of the World Championship picture, but his spot was filled by Andrade El Idolo. The decision proved to be a success; Andrade’s high-stakes victory over Swerve Strickland received glowing reviews internally, with management reportedly very pleased by both the match quality and the crowd’s strong reaction to Andrade’s rise.

The ripple effect has also reached Joe’s faction, The Opps. With The Samoan Submission Machine out of action, the leadership mantle has been passed down. Hook has officially stepped up as the temporary leader of the group, ensuring the stable remains a featured part of AEW television while its founder focuses on his recovery.

• “We can’t keep relying on the same small-knit group of people that have a track record of success” – Top AEW Star

During an interview with Justin Barrasso, AEW star Kenny Omega had the following to say about the future of the professional wrestling business:

“I could main event until I’m dead. But what follows after if I haven’t built anybody – or if I haven’t had a hand in helping the next generation rise up? That’s more so my role now than it’s ever been.

We need to trust our future. There are people who need these experiences. They need to learn and evolve as performers.

We can’t keep relying on the same small-knit group of people that have a track record of success. We need to be cognizant of what we’re doing moving forward.”
