Shawn Spears recently explained that his departure from AEW was not due to any disputes or frustrations, but rather a personal desire to contribute more.
In an interview on Chris Van Vliet’s Insight podcast, Spears shared that he wanted to be more involved both on and off-camera:
“I think it just came down to a personal want, in terms of wanting to contribute a little bit more, both in front of the camera and behind the camera.
I had a wonderful time in AEW.”
He also emphasized his positive relationship with Tony Khan and the AEW team, stating, “You’re never going to hear me say anything bad about that guy.”
Spears reflected on his time in AEW as special, where he gained valuable experiences working with top talents like MJF and FTR.
“A lot of things that I would have never gotten to do, I think in my career, I was very fortunate enough to do there,” he said.
Since leaving AEW, Spears returned to WWE’s NXT brand in February and has been involved in several high-profile matches.
