• Sid Vicious Reveals His Problem With Chris Benoit

In this flashback article, we take a look at an old shoot interview with former WWF & WCW World Heavyweight Champion Sid Vicious, where he talked about his problem with Chris Benoit.

Below are the highlights:

Host: Did you question when they put the belt on Benoit in that match (WCW Souled Out), yet it had been rumored everywhere that he wanted to leave? Did you find that kind of odd?

Sid: I did. I didn’t even know it till the day before. On the day of the match, Terry Taylor told me that in the gym and I was really upset. Not upset, but I was confused and a little pi$$ed off thinking about two things.

One, we know this rumor about them signing a petition, trying to start whatever that just doesn’t go in this business. The other is, Chris was a hell of a hard worker but he’s never going to be a big money draw. And so for him to take the belt off me and put it on someone better, I thought that was understated.

And I’m there. I’m doing everything. I’m not trying to start my own Union, my own petition of people that only want this guy (Vince Russo) to work here because he only does good things for us. That was the whole thing.

There was him (Benoit), Malenko, Perry Saturn, Shane Douglas, all these smaller guys who were never going to reach the potential of the big guys and they wanted that spot. And through Russo they were going to get it. And that was his link trying to keep his job. He had that little power, but it didn’t work out.
