Below are a couple of top WWE news stories of the day.

• Kevin Patrick, who had recently taken on the role of lead announcer on SmackDown after working with Michael Cole on RAW, was removed from that position this week.

This change comes after WWE had high hopes for Patrick’s growth in the role and had been monitoring his performance.

WWE executives decided to remove Kevin from the SmackDown commentary team on January 22. Despite being well-liked personally within WWE, there was a consensus among executives that he might not have been the best fit for the commentary role.

In an update on this situation, PWInsider is reporting that WWE has now released Patrick from his contract.

Michael Cole is currently scheduled to be Kevin’s temporary replacement on SmackDown.

• During an interview with TNT Sports, former Bloodline member Jey Uso defend Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns’ part-time schedule.

Here’s what Roman’s former Right Hand Man said:

“I look at my cousin now, and I’m just happy at how far he’s come. From the day he walked into FCW developmental, to which I was there, to present. Inspiring.

He’s the blueprint of what hard work does, and you can just never knock that, and he has a great work ethic.

All the time that he has off, he deserves all that uce. He earned it.”
