• On This Day In Pro Wrestling History (January 22, 1995) – AWA Veteran Passed Away

On this day in 1995, we lost legendary AWA Veteran “Crusher” Jerry Blackwell at the age of 45 due to complications from several injuries, after a car accident a few weeks earlier.

Not many people remember this, but HulkaMania was actually born during Hulk Hogan’s AWA feud with Jerry Blackwell, when the Hulkster turned babyface in the process.

Blackwell ended up wrestling for Verne Gagne’s American Wrestling Association from 1979 till 1989.

Though he never won the AWA World Heavyweight Championship, he did win the AWA World Tag Team Championship with Ken Patera in 1983.
