• SPOILER: Former WWE Star Returning On NXT Tonight
Tonight’s episode of WWE NXT will feature the fallout from this past Saturday’s No Mercy premium live event. The show will also feature the build-up to next week’s special “Invasion” episode, which will go head-to-head with AEW Dynamite: Title Tuesday.
According to PWInsider, TNA star Mustafa Ali is set to appear on NXT tonight to continue the NXT-TNA invasion storyline. This will be Ali’s return to WWE TV. Other TNA names that are expected to appear on the show are Frankie Kazarian, Moose and Mike Santana.
Many former WWE stars showed up in the main event of last week’s NXT. Matt Cardona (fka Zack Ryder), Eric Young and The IInspiration (fka The IIconics) were some of the names involved in the invasion.
Invasion next week will feature Survivor Series-style matches for both men and women and a Winner Takes All Match between The Hardy Boyz and DarkState for the TNA and NXT Tag Team Championships.
A rematch between Oba Femi and Trick Williams is also set, but that could change after Ricky Saints became the NXT Champion at No Mercy. WWE has not made any announcement about a potential change to the match yet. It is also unknown if it will be a Winner Takes All bout.
• Legacy Reunion Set For SmackDown
On the SmackDown after Wrestlepalooza, Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes had a segment with WWE Hall of Famer Paul Heyman, which ended with Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed attacking him. Randy Orton came out to make the save for Rhodes.
The American Nightmare had a face-off with World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins on RAW last night. Things are heating up between the two men ahead of their clash at Crown Jewel.
SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis has now announced that Rhodes will team up with Orton to take on Breakker and Reed in a Tag Team Match on this Friday’s episode of SmackDown. Here’s what he said:
“Well, folks, seems to me that Bronson Reed and Bron Breaker seem to enjoy getting involved in other people’s business as of late. And having just wrapped up a phone call with my esteemed colleague, Adam Pierce, over at Monday Night RAW, we agreed that they can get involved in my business this Friday night on SmackDown.
More specifically, they can get involved in Cody Rhodes’ business and Randy Orton’s business because Bron Breaker and Bronson Reed, you, will be taking on the team of Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton this Friday night live in Cincinnati, Ohio for SmackDown. See you Friday, boys. Lace them up tight.”
The Legacy vs. The Vision is set for the main event of SmackDown!
• WWE Wrestler Could Be Out Of Action For Up To A Year
Prior to his injury, WWE NXT Superstar Ridge Holland had been working in TNA as part of the crossover deal between NXT and TNA. He had a deal with Trick Williams, who gave him a chance to earn a TNA World Championship Match by taking Mike Santana out of contention. But, Holland lost to Santana at Victory Road.
During last Saturday’s TNA taping in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Holland faced Moose. However, the match had to be stopped midway after he got hurt due to a bad landing. He was unable to put weight on the injured leg and had to be helped backstage. Moose and an official were seen assisting him to the back.
The 37-year-old took to X today to reveal that he suffered a Lisfranc injury and is set to undergo surgery later this week.
“Lisfranc Injury…Surgery Friday.
See ya in abit”
The injury could keep the former NXT Tag Team Champion out of action for several months, or even up to a year. The recovery time is usually longer in surgical cases.
Moose vs. Ridge Holland was taped for the October 12 episode of TNA iMPACT!
• “She didn’t learn a lot in AEW” – WWE Personality Slams Jade Cargill’s Wrestling Skills After SmackDown Botch
Last week’s episode of SmackDown featured Tiffany Stratton vs. Jade Cargill vs. Nia Jax in a Triple-Threat Match for the WWE Women’s Championship in the main event.
The match did not go down as planned as it featured a few botches. At one point, Nia Jax drove Jade Cargill into the steel steps, which left the former AEW star bloody. Later in the bout, the referee stopped her count, despite The Irresistible Force not kicking out when Stratton pinned her.
During his Hall of Fame podcast, NXT commentator Booker T said there was a lot of miscommunication during the match, which is not acceptable.
“That can’t happen on live television. It wasn’t a good night at all. You could tell there was a lot of miscommunication. You’ve got an NIL talent, Tiffany Stratton.
You’ve got Jade Cargill who’s pretty much fresh off her AEW run, and just think about that time in AEW for her, she probably didn’t learn a whole lot, because – no disrespect or anything – but she was just put on a wing and she never really got a chance to really wrestle anybody.
And then you’ve got Nia Jax, who’s been there, of course is gonna feel like, ‘I need to quarterback this thing, I feel like I know more than these girls.’
It could have been a plethora of things, but you could tell there was a lot of miscommunication. One thing about matches like that – the only thing they’re gonna remember is the finish. You’ve gotta get everybody to that point to where that finish can happen and it goes off without a hitch. And that didn’t happen, that didn’t happen in this match.
Was it a botch? Heck yeah it was a botch. Was it a miscommunication? Was it a screw up? Whatever term you wanna put on it – yes it was. But one thing I do feel about that kind of stuff – that can’t happen on live television.
If I went to go and see Hamilton, and they were going home, and the guy slipped on his butt and he forgot his lines, I think I would be pretty upset about that too.
They went out there and it wasn’t a good night. It wasn’t a good night at all.”
Nia Jax has been highly criticized for the match by fans online, but Jade Cargill’s recent activity on X indicates that the botched pinfall may be Tiffany Stratton’s mistake (which we covered in our previous article).
