• WWE Wins Bloodline Lawsuit
A federal judge has permanently thrown out a lawsuit against WWE and the publisher of the WWE 2K video game series after an independent wrestling promoter claimed the company stole his faction’s presentation to create The Bloodline.
Nathaniel Tatha-Nanandji, who ran Arkansas-based WCWA Wrestling, filed a 30-page complaint claiming that WWE lifted a precise staging routine he developed in 2019 for a group called Tier 1, specifically where wrestlers pause, face the hard camera, and raise a single finger into the air in a synchronized display of dominance.
However, U.S. District Judge David Clay Fowkes dismissed the case with prejudice, finding zero proof that anyone in WWE ever had access to the indy footage or directly copied it, while pointing out that an average viewer would see no meaningful similarity between the clips beyond generic, unprotected wrestling poses.
WWE had strongly pushed back, arguing that no single promoter can copyright the universal gesture of athletes raising a number one finger in victory.
With the ruling completely shutting the door on a planned October settlement conference, the case is officially closed for good, bringing a final end to the legal battle filed by a local promotion that has not actively run shows or updated its platforms since 2021.
