Below are a couple of top WWE news stories of the day, featuring Stone Cold Steve Austin, Ric Flair, Cody Rhodes and The Undertaker.
• Stone Cold Steve Austin’s last match took place on April 2, 2022, in the main event of WrestleMania 38 – Night 1, where he defeated Kevin Owens in a No Holds Barred match. Since then, he has been focusing on his life at his ranch in Texas.
Ric Flair discussed this on Busted Open Radio, noting the generational shift in WWE with new talent emerging. Flair mentioned that he keeps in touch with some veterans from the ’90s and 2000s, but not with Austin.
Here’s what The Nature Boy said:
“I was talking to [Charlotte Flair] yesterday and I said it’s just a whole new time in life. It’s funny but – I don’t mean funny by we don’t talk to him but, like Steve (Austin) has just disappeared. I would talk to him once a week, twice a week, once a month. I haven’t talked to Steve in a year.
I talk to Taker occasionally and I see (Mick) Foley at signings and HBK, but if you look at all the guys that were around, the names – the generational guys you would call talent or the great workers or biggest stars or Mr. WrestleMania or whatever, they’re all gone. It’s a whole new era, guys.”
New Video: Debra (Steve Austin’s Ex-Wife) Reveals Her Buns:
• The Undertaker showed up at WrestleMania 40 and took out The Rock with a chokeslam, thus helping Cody Rhodes defeat Roman Reigns to win the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.
During an interview on Chris Van Vliet’s Insight podcast, Cody revealed that he thanked The Phenom for showing up in the main event and making it even more special:
“I didn’t sleep (that night). I went right to the Today Show. I lay in a bunk and I texted a bunch of people including The Undertaker.
I left him, what I would call, a rambling, ‘perhaps’ intoxicated little rant, just thanking him for being there. It’s the frickin’ sheriff. (He responded) immediately after, he was (grateful).”
