Below are some top WWE news stories of the day, involving The Miz and John Cena.
• The Miz has been with WWE for nearly two decades and one of his most memorable feuds was with Daniel Bryan.
This rivalry featured an iconic segment on the August 23, 2016 episode of “Talking Smack”. During the segment, Bryan criticized Miz’s wrestling style, calling it cowardly and indicative of a “soft WWE style”. The Miz responded with a passionate and angry tirade, defending his career and dedication to wrestling.
The Miz pointed out his consistent presence in the ring, highlighting that he had never been injured in his career, unlike Bryan, who had been sidelined due to injuries. He accused Bryan of being a coward for not quitting WWE and wrestling in the independent circuit if he truly loved wrestling.
Miz’s outburst culminated with Bryan walking off the set while Miz continued to express his frustration and anger.
The promo elevated The Miz’s status and added prestige to the Intercontinental Championship, marking a turning point in how fans and critics perceived him.
In a recent interview with Adrian Hernandez, The Miz reflected on this infamous segment. He admitted he disliked it because of the intense anger he felt:
“The one with Daniel Bryan, that’s probably my most infamous. When I got back and got out of that, I was so angry. It was real anger. I’ve never felt that type of anger before, and I didn’t know what to do with it. It’s scary.
I lost control of everything, and I just started yelling, and the veins were popping out of my head. I don’t like watching it; I don’t like the feeling that I had; I was so mad.”

• John Cena, one of WWE’s all-time greats, is known for his significant contributions to the business for 22 years. Despite his success and ventures outside of wrestling, WWE takes a percentage of his earnings from non-WWE activities, a practice that will continue even after his retirement from in-ring competition at the end of 2025.
Cena began working a part-time WWE schedule in the late 2010s, focusing more on his acting career. His acting debut was in 2006 with “The Marine,” and he has since appeared in films like “Daddy’s Home 2,” “Blockers,” “The Suicide Squad,” “Fast X,” and “Ricky Stanicky.” On TV, he stars in “Peacemaker,” a show based on his character from “The Suicide Squad.”
Unlike The Rock, who uses his real name, Dwayne Johnson, for acting, John Cena uses his birth name, which WWE owns the rights to. Cena discussed this on “The Howard Stern Show,” stating that WWE gets a cut of all his movies because of this name ownership.
When asked if it bothered him, Cena said: “Absolutely not,” adding, “I don’t mind kicking a percentage of my earnings to the person who gave me a chance and an opportunity. If anything that’s a sign of respect, I owe [them] a lot.”
He did admit that not owning his name’s rights is a “weird concept, in a way”.
