The Undertaker, a legend in the pro wrestling world, recently criticized modern wrestlers for their use of extreme weapons like light tubes.
On his Six Feet Under podcast, he expressed concern over the lack of storytelling behind these types of matches and questioned the risks taken, especially in front of small crowds.
“I get stuff on my [social media] feed from people getting bashed with like, there will be eight fluorescent bulbs on a thing in front of 10 or 15 people and they’re doing all this over-the-top stuff.
I don’t know what the story is.
All I’m looking at is, all I’m seeing is, there’s not enough people in that audience to generate enough money to get me to take something that ridiculous.
If I’m on the WWE payroll, they’re going to make it worth my while.
Their mindset is probably well, ‘If somebody sees this.’”
While light tubes and other extreme weapons like barbed wire and pizza cutters have become more common in today’s death matches, The Undertaker expressed doubt that such risks are justified, especially for smaller events.
Despite his retirement, he remains outspoken about the changes in the wrestling industry.
