3. Ronda Rousey On Taking Roddy Piper’s Nickname And His Blessing
UFC Hall of Famer Ronda Rousey spoke to People.com and revealed that she got the blessing of Old School WWF Legend Roddy Piper to take his ‘Rowdy’ nickname, before she actually started to use it.
Ronda recently announced that she’s pregnant, so a WWE return won’t happen for at least another year.
Here’s what the former RAW Women’s Champion said:
“When I first started doing MMA I was trying to think of a fight name and of course the first thing that everybody thought of was like ‘Rowdy’ Ronda Rousey.
And it’s like I know, but it’s like, ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper already has that and I don’t want to steal it.
Until I happened to see the ‘Rowdy’ one and got his blessing and he was very sweet about it. He was like, ‘Sure kid, no problem. Better do the name proud’ or something like that.”
