• How Andrade Won A World Title Last Night Despite Being Under A One-Year WWE Non-Compete

After being released by WWE in September, Andrade made a surprise return to AEW less than a month later. However, his comeback was short-lived, as he was quickly pulled from television once WWE activated the one-year non-compete clause in his contract.

After being out of action for several months, Andrade returned to the ring on Saturday night at WWC Lockout, where he defeated Xavant to capture the WWC Universal Championship.

Andrade Wins WWC Universal Championship

Ahead of the match, Andrade revealed that WWE had granted him legal permission to compete at the event despite the active non-compete. Speaking in an interview with SK Wrestling, he explained how the situation unfolded:

“I’m so happy to be in Puerto Rico. I’m so happy. I want to say thank you to my lawyer, because my lawyer now has a letter from the WWE. I have the non-compete for 12 months.

So today, my lawyer texted me and told me, ‘Andrade, I have a letter signed that you can participate tonight in Puerto Rico in the company WWC.’ So now the letter says I come back to the ring tonight… I’m so happy.

I hope (to be) back soon to AEW. I don’t know when I’m back, but now the letter is just for this show for Puerto Rico.”

The permission only applied to this specific appearance, meaning Andrade remains under his WWE non-compete while negotiations continue over reduction in the length of the clause.
