Below are some top news stories of the day, involving Tony Khan, Sting, Hulk Hogan and Bret Hart.
• Tony Khan booked an amazing final run for WCW Legend Sting in AEW, where The Icon retired as an undefeated champion in the company at Revolution 2024.
Khan has now put Sting on his Mount Rushmore of greatest wrestlers ever, updating his previous list by replacing WWE Hall of Famer Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat.
Here’s what Khan said during an interview with Sports Illustrated:
“I would say the undefeated AEW World Tag Team Champion who retired (in 2024) at Revolution, Sting, Ric Flair, Steve Austin, and Bret Hart.”
Khan said Sting’s retirement is one of the favorite things he’s booked in All Elite Wrestling so far, and that he’d want the former World Champion to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated to represent his company.

• The originally scheduled main event for the WWF SummerSlam 1993 pay-per-view was WWF Champion ‘The Immortal’ Hulk Hogan defending his title against Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart.
Hogan was going to put over Bret in a classic babyface vs. babyface match, similar to Hulk Hogan vs. The Ultimate Warrior at WrestleMania VI more than 3 years earlier.
But as we all know, that did not happen and The Hulkster dropped the Title to Yokozuna at the WWF King of the Ring 1993 PPV two months earlier instead.
Various versions of what led to that decision exist, including Bret blaming Hogan for not wanting to put him over, while Hulk explained that Vince McMahon changed his mind and it was all Vince’s decision.
During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Hulk talked about Bret’s hate for multiple wrestlers, including him, and took a shot at The Hitman in the end:
“Bret Hart, he hates Goldberg, and he hates everybody, so I don’t know where I fall in line there. I don’t know. The funny thing is that I saw him, I was in a WWE locker room and I was called to Gorilla Position, and I walked through the door, and Nattie, who I love to death, was standing there with Bret, and I go, ‘Hey Bret!’ and I reach out and shake his hand. He stuck his hand out and I shook it real quick and I was gone before he realized it was me, I think.
I love Bret to death, but it is what it is with your career, you know what I’m saying? If you could’ve done any better, you would’ve.”
