And he’s at TV every week! He’s a huge part of our roster. So, I count him as a star of the present. Sting hadn’t wrestled a match in many years and this year he came back and wrestled two great matches and two very different kinds [of matches].
He’s very much proved he’s still a star of the present.”
Sting wrestled only 4 matches in WWE, won 2 and lost 2. Out of these 4 matches, two were pay-per-view matches and he lost both of them.
In his WWE in-ring debut at WrestleMania 31, he lost to Triple H. Later that year at Night Of Champions 2015, he lost to Seth Rollins in a WWE Championship match (where he injured his neck).
WWE didn’t clear Sting to wrestle again after that injury, and he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2016.
During his Hall of Fame speech, Sting officially announced his retirement, but he still wanted to return.
In 2020, Sting told WWE that he wants to do a cinematic match with The Undertaker, but Taker retired after the Boneyard Match at WrestleMania 36 and Vince McMahon wasn’t interested in the idea of using Sting again after his injury scare at Night Of Champions.
After not getting what he (and fans all around the world) wanted, Sting decided to sign with AEW in late-2020 and made an in-ring comeback in 2021.
