John Cena will officially step into a wrestling ring for the final time in almost 24 hours. He’s set to headline Saturday Night’s Main Event against GUNTHER in front of more than 18,000 fans at the Capital One Arena in Washington D.C.
As expected, tributes have poured in from wrestlers, legends, and fans across the industry. But one major name who isn’t getting emotional about The GOAT’s last match is AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Moné.
During a recent Instagram Live session, a fan asked Moné for her thoughts on Cena’s retirement:
“Thoughts on John Cena retiring tomorrow.”
The CEO read the question, paused, and simply responded:
“Goodbye.”

Some fans believe her reaction may trace back to 2024, when Cena named Bayley, Becky Lynch, Bianca Belair, Rhea Ripley and Charlotte Flair as the women’s wrestlers he admired, noticeably leaving Moné off the list.
John Cena Clarifies Controversial Saturday Night’s Main Event Rumor
All week long, fans have been confused by conflicting reports about where John Cena vs. GUNTHER will be placed on the Saturday Night’s Main Event card. Some insiders claimed the match would open the show, while others insisted it would close the historic broadcast.
The GOAT has now cleared things up himself.
Appearing on The Pat McAfee Show today, Cena addressed the speculation directly, confirming that, at least as of now, he is scheduled to close the show. He also emphasized that he’s ready to adapt if WWE decides otherwise.
Here’s what Cena said:
“I was on Jimmy Kimmel and I said I’m ending the show. I said I normally go to bed early but I’m gonna have to stay up late for this one. I guess people didn’t read between the tea leaves.
We’re last. I don’t know how the rumor started. I think some folks with credibility like to kick a hornets’ nest every once in a while and get people chattering. I understand, we’re in the age of information, so it’s gonna keep my attention – ‘You’re not last?!’ Sure, that’ll keep my attention for a few hot clicks.
I don’t even know how that started. It’s difficult to conceptualize that. Again, I don’t make the menu, and if I show up tomorrow and they want me to go on first, that’s what I’m gonna do. But we are last at this point.”
