As we noted before, PWInsider reported that SmackDown Live Superstar Shinsuke Nakamura was bitten by a police dog before a WWE SmackDown Live event in Bakersfield, CA.

Nakamura then wasn’t cleared to compete at that WWE Live Event and wasn’t cleared to compete last week on SmackDown Live either (where he was scheduled to face Jeff Hardy for the United States Championship) as he has a very sore leg from the dog bite.

The police dog was brought backstage at the Live Event as a part of a pre-show security check. The dog sniffed Nakamura’s leg and bit him without being provoked.

The Bakersfield Police Department issued the following statement regarding this incident:

“On Monday, June 25, 2018, officers of the Bakersfield Police Department Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) Team were conducting a protective sweep of the Rabobank Arena in preparation for the WWE Live SummerSlam Heatwave Tour.

During the sweep, the EOD Team, which consisted of an explosive detection trained canine team and bomb technicians entered an area of the arena where an employee of the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) was present. The canine entered the room to sweep for the presence of any explosive material.

As the sweep took place the WWE employee was accidentally bit by the canine. The employee sustained an injury to his lower left leg. Medical aid was immediately summoned to the scene and the employee was transported to a local area hospital for medical treatment. We are conducting an internal review of the incident.”

Nikkan Sports is now reporting that Nakamura is expected to be out of action for 2 weeks. Given how today is July 1 and Extreme Rules 2018 is on July 15, it’s safe to say that WWE won’t use Nakamura at the upcoming PPV as a safety measure.

Speaking of Nakamura, he appeared at recent WWE Live Events in Japan, but didn’t compete. He was involved in promo segments.
