Drew McIntyre competed in a Triple-Threat match against GUNTHER and Sheamus for the Intercontinental Championship on the second night of WWE WrestleMania 39 earlier this year.

After failing to capture the title, McIntyre didn’t appear on WWE programming for a couple of months, which sparked rumors of him possibly leaving WWE.  He made his return at the Money In The Bank premium live event to confront GUNTHER.

The Scottish Warrior failed to capture the Intercontinental Championship once again at SummerSlam.

He is now involved in a Tag Team with Matt Riddle on RAW and has been teasing a heel turn since his loss to GUNTHER at SummerSlam.

On this week’s episode of RAW, he said that he’d deal with Cody Rhodes if Jey Uso causes any problems on the red brand.

WWE seems to have plans in place for a potential McIntyre heel turn in the future, but his future with the company is up in the air right now.

According to insider source BWE, McIntyre’s WWE contract is set to expire soon and there is no indication yet that the former WWE Champion will sign a new deal with the company.

PWInsider had reported earlier this year that his contract would expire in early 2024.

Speaking to TMZ Sports a while ago, McIntyre said the following about rumors of him being unhappy in WWE and possibly parting ways with the company.

“It was cool, getting the break. There were a lot of rumors and headlines on the internet when I was out, probably like 50 different things. It was amazing all the stories about me out there.

When you’re not on TV, people talk, and you know, there might have been some smoke to some fire with a few of them, but it was nice. People were talking about me when I wasn’t there, but I did have to get some things fixed physically.

Unlike injuries I’ve had in the past, there was no rehab involved, so I was actually able to enjoy my time at home, work on some outside projects, spend time with the Mrs. and the cat, and take a step outside of the bubble and kind of get perspective again.”
