WWE missed out on the opportunity to sign Will Ospreay, as The Aerial Assassin signed with AEW.
Before WrestleMania 40, Triple H made a statement implying that wrestlers who weren’t prepared for the ‘grind’ didn’t belong in WWE.
Although he didn’t mention Ospreay by name, many believed the comment was aimed at him.
Ospreay seemed to think so too, as he responded during the April 10 episode of Dynamite, suggesting that Triple H only got to his current position by ‘grinding’ on the boss’ daughter.
According to WrestlePurists, Triple H was really upset that WWE couldn’t sign Ospreay, as the amount of money offered to Ospreay wasn’t in HHH’s hands:
“[Triple H] thinks Will Ospreay is a tremendous wrestler and he’s salty that he didn’t get him. [The grind comments] was just him venting.
He wanted Will, he knows how great Will is, and he didn’t get him and he was really upset about it.
I spoke to someone in WWE at the time and was like, ‘Well then why didn’t they pay him more?’ and I was told it wasn’t Hunter’s call how much money he was going to be offered and his hands were tied in that way.”
