Below are some top WWE & AEW news stories of the day.
• Giulia, who is still working with STARDOM founder Rossy Ogawa in his new Dream Star Fighting Marigold promotion, is expected to join WWE soon. Despite suffering a right wrist injury in May, WWE aims to feature her “as soon as possible”.
According to Fightful Select, Giulia isn’t expected at NXT Heatwave this Sunday as she’s still in Japan, but WWE hopes to have her at NXT’s next PLE:
“The expectation is that Giulia will feature on the next NXT Premium Live Event, but there has been no confirmation on when that will be, although NXT sources believe SummerSlam weekend is a likely landing spot for NXT’s next PLE.”
She needs to fulfill her Marigold commitments before heading to WWE and is expected to be cleared to face Sareee on July 13th.
Giulia signed with WWE during the WrestleMania 40 weekend and she’s rumored to challenge for the NXT Women’s Championship in her debut match.
• The AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door 2024 pay-per-view delivered memorable moments and solid matches, offering fans a diverse and exciting show. The event was headlined by a match between Will Ospreay and Swerve Strickland for the AEW World Championship, with Swerve retaining his title.
Mercedes Mone became a double champion by defeating Stephanie Vaquer for the NJPW Women’s Strong Championship. Other highlights included Jack Perry winning the TNT Championship and Bryan Danielson defeating Shingo Takagi.
According to the Wrestling Observer, early estimates for pay-per-view buys for this event are between 110,000 to 116,000. This is down from last year’s Forbidden Door PPV, which drew around 140,000 buys.
• WCW Veteran Kevin Sullivan is facing significant health challenges, leading to his family launching a GoFundMe page.
On May 12, 2024, while in Florida for autograph signings, Sullivan suffered a devastating accident requiring emergency surgery that saved his leg and life. He faced severe complications, including sepsis and encephalitis, resulting in an immense financial burden on his family.
The GoFundMe page has a target of $20,000 and over $7,000 have been raised as of this writing, with the top donations being from Chris Jericho ($2,500) and Diamond Dallas Page ($1,000). Sullivan remains in the ICU, far from home, and in and out of consciousness.
