• Update on The Rock’s SummerSlam 2025 Status Amid Cody Rhodes Heel Turn Rumors
On last week’s episode of SmackDown, Cody Rhodes laid out John Cena during their contract signing segment and revealed that their WWE Championship rematch at SummerSlam 2025 will be a Street Fight. This began speculation that there’s going to be interferences in this match, due to the added stipulation.
There have been rumors of Cody’s heel turn for a while now, and some fans started theories that Cody will finally sell his soul to The Rock at SummerSlam to win back the WWE Championship – thus turning Cena back to a babyface in the process.
However, Bodyslam reports that there have been no talks internally in WWE about The Rock returning for the two-night SummerSlam at MetLife Stadium on August 2nd and 3rd. The Rock last appeared on WWE TV at Elimination Chamber 2025, where Cena turned heel.
• Original Evolution 2 Plan For Alexa Bliss
Plans for WWE’s Evolution event shifted drastically before the show took place, and one match that never happened was Charlotte Flair vs. Alexa Bliss. According to insider source Kerrmit125, the two were originally scheduled to face off in a singles match on the card.
However, things changed when Liv Morgan suffered an injury in the lead-up to the event. That situation caused multiple matches to be restructured, including the planned Charlotte vs. Alexa showdown.
Instead, both Flair and Bliss ended up competing in a Fatal 4-Way WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship match, representing a complete change from the one-on-one bout originally discussed.
• John Cena Reveals If He’d Like To Face The Rock Again
As John Cena’s retirement tour moves past the halfway mark, fans are naturally curious about who the WWE Champion might face next – and perhaps most intriguingly, whether a final match against longtime rival The Rock could happen. At FAN EXPO Denver 2025, Cena addressed the rumors and hopes directly during a panel discussion.
When asked if he’d consider squaring off against Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson one last time as a farewell match, Cena admitted it was a “fantasy booking” scenario but one he thought would be “really cool.” Despite his enthusiasm for the idea, Cena tempered expectations, explaining that over his 25-year career, he’s learned to stay flexible and not overcommit to specific opponents.
“What I like to do is get a plan and say, ‘Hey, can I, as the artist, be creative with the plan?’” Cena said. He emphasized that his ability to adapt and have creative freedom has been crucial, allowing him to bring unique moments to WWE fans while avoiding getting bogged down by rigid match setups.
While Cena didn’t officially confirm The Rock as a future opponent, his remarks kept the door open.
Interestingly, The Rock has been absent from WWE TV since Elimination Chamber 2025, where Cena’s shocking heel turn saw him align with “The Final Boss.” This makes the possibility of their paths crossing again even more tantalizing to fans.
• Rhea Ripley Reacts To Drew McIntyre’s Comment About Her A$$
Drew McIntyre is well-known for playfully trolling his WWE peers on social media, with many of his posts gaining widespread attention. On the Impaulsive podcast, Logan praised Drew’s social media presence, even admitting that he was a bit wary of catching some heat from Drew himself.
Drew responded by saying, “I’m here to take everybody out. It’s amazing to watch it grow. It’s unbelievable the power of social media. I learned being outside the company, specifically the last two years, the power of it and watching the platform grow. From an engagement perspective, I’m the most powerful in the company besides Rhea Ripley’s a$$. I’ve seen the numbers. These are facts.”
While Drew’s comment about Rhea Ripley’s engagement was meant as a cheeky joke, some fans felt it went overboard. Ripley defended him online, stating: “Guys… I understand. But it really wasn’t malicious.”
• CM Punk Reveals Why Triple H Threw Away His WWE Return Promo Script
Wrestling is full of tough moments, but even the most seasoned pros can get butterflies under the right circumstances. CM Punk opened up about a surprisingly vulnerable moment from his high-profile WWE return in 2023 – and the helping hand he received from none other than Triple H. Speaking with SPORTbible, Punk shared that backstage before his return promo in 2023, he was more nervous than most fans would ever expect. Updating fans on the emotional moment, Punk admitted he actually brought a sheet of paper with his planned promo written out word-for-word, worried about nailing his lines after so long away from the WWE spotlight.
That’s when Triple H stepped in. Sensing Punk’s nerves, Triple H took the sheet of paper from him, crumpled it up, and tossed it aside, reportedly telling Punk to just go be you. According to Punk, that simple act took the pressure off – a reminder that the best promos come from the heart, not from a script. Here’s what Punk said:
“I was running around with a piece of paper in my hand that had whatever I was supposed to say. I keep looking at it. Triple H gets up and comes up to me and goes, ‘What are you doing, man? You’re freaking everybody out.’ ‘What do you mean I’m freaking everybody out?’ ‘Nobody here has ever seen you hold a script in your hand and read it like you’re not just going to go out there and say whatever the hell you want.’
I’m like, ‘Oh, well, you know, I’m new around here. I don’t want to step on anybody’s toes.’ He grabbed the piece of paper, crumpled it up, and threw it out. ‘You’re CM Punk. Just go out there and talk to the people.’ ‘Right. Right.’ That’s what I needed to hear because I’m trying to move in a certain way, and he’s like, ‘No, go be you. That’s why you’re here.”
